Hey there! I’m J. Louis, but please, call me Josh.
I’m a writer, publisher, and educator based out of central Kentucky. I write fantasy stories of all kinds, from microfantasies of 100 words, to short stories, to full-length novels. I’m excited to welcome you to my little corner of the Internet and to share what I’m all about!
I’ve written a ton over the years, but I’ve only recently begun my writing and publishing career in earnest. That said, I’m determined to build a fantasy fiction empire. If I were to compare my works to other fantasy writers, I’d say they’re most inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jordan, and Terry Brooks. If any of these names are on your bookshelf, you’ve come to the right place.
Most of my microfantasy and short stories are self-contained, so I’d say any of them are great places to start with my work. You can read my stories with a free subscription to my newsletter, Fantasy and Fellowship, within 60 days of their publication date.

But, Why Should I Listen to You, Josh?
That’s a fair question. Let me explain.
I’ve been in the trenches of the writing world for over a decade now, fighting for my life to get published and make a name for myself with my fantasy fiction. I took what seemed like all the right steps, only to get shot down at every turn. I went to creative writing school, worked on my craft, and tried my best to stay consistent, even after entering the professional workforce (which, it turns out, is really hard).
But life is messy, and somewhere in the hustle and bustle of my post-college career as a copywriter, I lose sense of what I truly loved: telling stories.
Eventually, I completed my Master’s degree in English and Creative Writing, then graduated from copywriting work to academic writing support at my local community college. That’s where I discovered my second passion: helping other writers. While exciting in its own way, it wasn’t long before my career became a distraction from what I really wanted to do with my life.
That’s when I discovered the joy of writing online and self-publishing, and since then, it has grown into an immense source of fulfillment and inspiration in my life.
Now, I share my stories online without the constraints and gatekeeping of the traditional publishing industry while encouraging and supporting other writers to do the same. The principle that guides my work: you don’t need anyone’s permission to share your writing. You don’t need an agent or a book deal; you just need the courage to put your work out there.
My work with J. Louis Creative embodies that courage; it’s where I’m building my fantasy fiction empire in public. I hope my journey can inspire other writers to do the same.
